Solo-loquy
5 Jan
The feel of the tarmac under my Tarmac
My heart rate a few touches higher than normal,
Riding solo into the slight wind
The interminably blue sky punctuated only by engine braking and freeway noise
Neither of which quells the solo ride anxiety.
Nothing but fatigue will do that.
Empty back streets yield way on to way
The long road ahead beckons me
Not taunting, not negative.
Only inviting on this warm and sunny winter day.
My legs pump and turn over, steady riding today.
I know that winter is coming, with its cold and its rain.
Then flowers and green, however brief they may be.
I smile and am thankful, heart pumping the blood,
As I watch without judgement the drivers in their cars rushing, hurrying, speeding.
I too hope to speed soon, number plate attached to my mountain bike,
Knobby tires and suspension cruising and surfing terrain.
For now, I’ll take the warmth, promising for my foot and my health.
Solo or not, I’ll enjoy the ride I’m on, feeling the road, feeling the sun,
Always anxious and ready for more.

After a successful 2010 that led Allison to her 1st international competition, at the 2010 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships in Mont-Sainte-Anne, she succumed to an injury that kept her off the bike and out of training for 2011. Missing out valuable training time, race experience, and needed results in 2011, Allison has ensured 2012 will be a solid year of training, racing, and new experiences across the country and internationally where she plans to race and promote Bikes for Boobs benefitting Mammograms in Action. She continues to ride and race with mutual support from Rock N' Road Cyclery in Orange County, as well as with her husband, Justin.
