2010 Mountain Bike World Championships
11 Aug
Back in July, when I was in Colorado I saw on USA Cycling’s site that they opened up the discretionary petition for the World Championship team. I will admit I knew it was a long shot, but I figured why not? I knew if I didn’t apply I definitely wouldn’t make the team. I went for the cup being half full and petitioned. I was stoked to get 8th at Nationals after a somewhat not ideal lead-up, but I knew that still gave me only an outside shot at the nomination.
When we started doing fun rides on the weekend and hanging with friends instead of “training” (I know you’ve all seen the beer and food!) Justin and I planned a Labor Day weekend get-away to Utah for some good riding. I did put a tiny disclaimer on the trip that it wouldn’t happen if I was named to the World’s team (which I gave about a 99% of chance of not happening – thus a 1% possibility).
Justin and I hit the road for our “long ride Wednesday” today and talked a bit about racing, training, next season, etc. After I got back I was digging back in to work for the evening and saw an email. From USA Cycling. That I had been selected to the World’s team.
